- 31 yearsof experience with Edgar Payne
- Since 1995selling paintings online
- 3rd generationEarly California art dealer
Steven Stern Fine Arts is based in Los Angeles and specializes in California Impressionism and Early California and Western American painting. The gallery has sold paintings online since 1995, when few dealers had a website, and its main site, CaliforniaPaintings.com, shows current inventory and past works by the leading painters of the period.
Edgar Payne expertise
Edgar Payne has been central to the gallery for more than three decades. Over those years Steven Stern has handled Payne's work across his career: Sierra Nevada canvases, Laguna and Southern California landscapes, Navajo riders in Canyon de Chelly, and the Brittany and Italian boat pictures of the 1920s. That experience covers the questions owners and buyers actually ask: is it right, which period and subject is it, what condition is it in, and what will the market pay for it today.
Because the gallery both buys and sells, it can tell a seller what collectors are paying now and tell a buyer how a painting compares with other Paynes on the market.
